Impressive PR for Garland at UK Challenge Final |
While much of the season has been a disppointment for 2007 World Championship team Member Dale Garland, he showed what he was capable off by winning the UK Challenge final in Cardiff in 49.54 - a time that woud have seen him challenge for a semi final spot in the World championships in Berlin.
The Channel Islanders time lifted him to 3rd on the 2009 UK rankings and makes the likely challenge for 2010 Eiropean championship interesting with now four British athletes below 50 sedonds for the year, plus the 2008 UK number 1 Rick Yates.
Behind Garland , Andy Blow clocked his first ever electronic sub 51 seconds with 50.96 whilst Martin Lipton's 52.37 PR took third place.
Sian Scott [58.39] reversed her UK championhship placing with Hannah Stares [58.97] in the women's event as they ducked under 59 seconds in a race which aslo saw a first ever sub 60 second clocking for Caryly Granville whose 59.95 placed her 5th.
The sprint hurdles races were hampered by homestraight strong headwinds, though Callum Priestley's victory made him one of three overall jackpot victors after his clearcut 13.92 triumph [-2.1] Whilst Angie Broadbelt Blake edged Louise Wood 13.77 o 13.84 to take the women's sprint hurdle victory. |
