Priestely and O'Rourke Triumph in National Champs |
The Avia Uk National 60 m Hurdles Championships demonstrated the growing depth of men's sprint hurdles and signs of better things to come in the women's event.
Even without Britain's two top sprint hurdlers of 2009 [William Sharman and Andy Turner], the men's Indoor title was still hotly contested with Callum Priestley confirming his favourites tag, with a 7.69 victory, 1/100th outside his PR set the previous weekend.
His perennial rival through the age groups Gianni Frankis claimed silver in new best figures of 7.76 with European Junior Champion Lawrence Clarke 3rd in 7.78.
Though shorn of local heroine Jessica Ennis, the women's event did feature Ireland's former World Indoor champion Derval O'Rourke, who duly won in 8.11.
Gemma Bennett continued her progress with 8.20 as first Briton home, in front of three new personel bests for Louise Hazel [8.27], Katey Read [8.31] and Louise Wood [8.38] |
