Start to 2003 Indoor Campaign
The
2003 Indoor season got into its stride in the second
weekend of January with the Welsh Championships in Cardiff
and some quality sprint hurdles fields in conjunction
with a National squad gathering in Manchester. With
the British indoor season climaxing with the World Indoors
in March, there was some fine early displays.
Diane Allahgreen Britain's number one sprint hurdler
opened her season with 8.38 victory in Manchester. Behind
her there were good performances for Helen Worsey, narrowly
outside her 2002 pb with 8.45 and Tamsin Stephens who
recorded her best ever time 8.51 seconds.
There were also good pb's for Junior Catherine Crawford
[8.78] and Ruth Dales [8.87] whilst Stef Pullinger [8.78]
and Caroline Pearce [8.85] also recorded good starts.
In the men's 60 hurdles Dominic Girdler and Rob Newton
went below the eight second mark in their first outings
of the season [7.92 and 7.97 respectively] with Duncan
Malins just outside this mark with 8.04.
Meanwhile in the Welsh Championships, the Principality's
number one female sprint hurdler, Rachel King triumphed
in 8.41. The Men's title went for the first time to
Matthew Butler who took the title with 8.39.
