Hurdlers
Sharpen up for Indoor AAA's
A busy
weekend of domestic action saw Britain sprint hurdlers
sharpen up with a week to go before the AAA Championships/World
Championship trials.
Whilst Colin Jackson was running his fastest time of
the year in winning the Norwich Union Grand Prix at
the NIA, British hurdlers were busy at the Birmingham
Games and the BUSA Championships at Kelvin Hall Glasgow.
Rachel King's followed up her World qualifying mark
in the Europa Cup by defeating Diane Hawkins 8.24 to
8.27 in the Birmingham Games, though both finished behind
Ireland's Deval O'Rourke. In 4th place top junior Symone
Belle inched her pb down a further notch to 8.42.
In the senior men's hurdles Duncan Malins took a good
step forward winning in 7.84 to move to 4th on the current
UK indoor list, whilst in the age group events there
was also a fine performances for Nicola Robinson who
clocked 8.72 in the Junior girls event.
Meanwhile in Glasgow, Malins' Colin Bovell coached training
partners were in great form, Europa Cup representative
Dominic Girdler improving to below 7.8 with a 7.78 championship
best performance for equal 13th on the UK all time list,
in front of Tristan Anthony's new pb of 7.93. Girdler's
Loughborough colleagues dominated the women's event
with Helen Worsey running first 8.35 in the heat and
then 8.31 in the final for 24th on the all time list
whilst Tamsin Stephens silver medal 8.41 was a new Northern
Ireland
