Leipzig Europa Cup Report

Rachel King's late call up to the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the Inaugural Indoor Europa Cup proved very profitable as she achieved the qualifying mark for the IAAF World Indoor Championships, to held in Birmingham

Replacing the injured Diane Hawkins, King clocked 8.20 to take an excellent fourth place in a race won by Spain's European Champion Glorie Alozie. The Welsh Champion's time was fractionally outside her best ever time indoors but matched exactly the requirement standard for the Worlds.

In the men's race European Junior bronze medallist Dominic Girdler performed creditably on his British Senior debut clocking 7.87, 5/100ths outside his recent new pb, in finishing seventh, the race being won by Germany's Mike Fenner.
