Eilidh Child Equals UK Record

The hurdles highlight of the annual Schools International at Cardiff was a great performance by Scotland's Eilidh Child who equaled Rachel Kay's u17 British 30m hurdles record with 41.98 victory. The Norman Gardiner coached athlete had run 42.21 last year to rank third all time behind Kay and Natasha Danvers, but here involved in a great race with ESAA champion Ellen Howarth Brown, who herself clocked an excellent pb of 42.57 [for 5th on the all time list], Child edged through the 42 second barrier for the first time.

In the youths long hurdles Edward Harrison went some way to atoning for his disappointment in finishing second in last weeks English Schools with a new pb of 53.71 victory from ESAA bronze medallist Lewis Robson.

ESAA champion Craig France continued his run of success with a 13.59 victory into a strong head wind. But it did not all go England's way as Wales' Heather Jones just edged out Kylie Robilliard with 11.62 to the Channel Island athletes' 11.68.
