2. The first two athletes eligible to compete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in each event at the AAA U-20 Championships, and who have also achieved the UK Athletics ‘A’ standard, will automatically be selected.

3. To be considered for selection athletes will be expected to obtain the UK Athletics ‘A’ standard. However, consideration may be given to athletes who have consistently (on more than 2-3 occasions) achieved the UKA ‘B’ standard, thus demonstrating the sort of current form necessary to achieve finalist status.

4. It is very unlikely that any athlete will be selected to double up on any events in Tampere because of the pressures of high level competition or number of qualifying rounds involved. An individual event plus relay duty would seem the most demanding and acceptable, possible loading to be attempted.

5. Current form is an important selection criteria.

6. Initial selections will be made at Bedford, immediately following the U-20 Championships on 28th/29th June 2003.

7. The team will then be finalised at the selection meeting on Sunday, 13th July 2003.

8. The Selection Panel reserves the right to make value judgements on situations that it considers to be exceptional circumstances within the reference framework and spirit of the general policy.
