Closing date for qualifying performances – 6th July 2003

The team will be selected in all events in two waves – on Sunday, 29th June following the Norwich Union AAA U-23 Championships and finalised on Sunday, 6th July.

Up to a maximum of three athletes can be selected for each event.The first Great Britain and Northern Ireland eligible athlete in each trial event [except walking events, combined events and 10,000 metres] will be awarded a place in the team, provided he or she has achieved the UKA ‘A’ standard in the year 2003.

If the first eligible athlete in the relevant trials has not achieved the UKA ‘A’ standard in the qualifying period he or she shall have no right to automatic selection.If the first eligible athlete in the relevant trials has not achieved the UKA ‘A’ standard in the qualifying period, but the event has athletes who have achieved this standard in the qualifying period, the selectors may select up to three athletes per event.

To select more than one athlete in an event each athlete must have the UKA ‘A’ standard.In those events where no UKA ‘A’ standard athlete is selected then one UKA ‘B’ standard athlete may be selected if he or she has consistently achieved the ‘B standard, and demonstrates current form.

The Selection Panel reserve the right to make value judgements on situations that they consider to be exceptional circumstances within the reference framework and the spirit of the general policy.
